2017 Chvey Tahoe 03 H&H Chevrolet

At H&H Chevrolet, we’re proud to serve some of the most historic, friendly towns in the Cumberland Valley area of south-central Pennsylvania. Located in Shippensburg, we serve the surrounding area including Shippensburg, Chambersburg, Gettysburg, and Carlisle.

Shippensburg

Shippensburg is a borough in the Cumberland Valley and one of the oldest communities in Pennsylvania. This small town is home to Shippensburg University and a wealth of places to eat and things to do. Shippensburg was recognized as one of the best small towns in the US in Norman Crampton’s 100 Best Small Towns in America, ranked #27.

Chambersburg

Chambersburg survived Confederate burning in the 1800s and its historic buildings still stand today, like the Old Jail built in 1818. Chambersburg is the perfect place to visit to learn about local history, see a live show at the Capitol Theater, or head to Tuscarora Mountain Winery for a wine tasting.

Gettysburg

If you don’t live in Gettysburg, the first thing that probably comes to mind when you think about it are the Battle of Gettysburg and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. And those are great reasons to visit this historic town, but there are plenty of other things to do too! Besides history, there are farmers markets, Reid’s Winery, and the Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve.

Carlisle

Carlisle is home to Dickinson College and a thriving local artist community, from performers to brewers to antiquers. It also has a great hiking and outdoors scene, so if you’d rather spend your time in nature, visit the Kings Gap Environmental Education and Training Center, the LeTort Spring Run and Nature Trail, or the gardens at Cameron/Masland Mansion.

Learn about the Battlefield of Gettysburg

H&H Chevrolet is proud to call Gettysburg, Pennsylvania its home. Years ago, this historic city was also home to one of the biggest battles in American history. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought between the Union and the Confederacy from July 1st to July 3rd in 1863. It resulted in the largest amount of casualties of the entire Civil War. Many agree, however, that this battle was the turning point of the war. Today, the Battlefield of Gettysburg serves as a 6,000-acre Civil War military park that honors the thousands of soldiers that fought and gave their lives in this battle.

Learning about this significant battle is an important way to get more strongly acquainted with the country’s heritage. Conveniently, a visitor to the Battlefield of Gettysburg will find that there are multiple ways to tour the park and learn about this historic event. Choose from bus tours, carriage tours, segway tours or horseback tours.

Many different guided tours are available, and Civil War enthusiasts are happy to teach visitors everything they know. Before your schedule your tour, stop by the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center for a basic introduction to the battle and its significance in the war. The Visitors Center also displays a gigantic, 360-degree view of Pickett’s Charge, a must-see for all visitors.

Tips for Buying Used: What to Look For

Tips for buying used - what to look for

Tips for buying used – what to look for

Buying a used car is a great investment, often getting you the most bang for your buck. However, there are some important tips and tricks to keep in mind when researching, budgeting, and paying. Read on to see some of these tips for buying used.

According to KBB.com, you need to start with budgeting and research. Find out how much you can spend (subtract expenses from income), and be sure to account for taxes, title fees, registration, insurance, and fuel. It’s also important to research which car is right for you. Want a four-door or two-door sedan? Coupe? Hatchback or minivan? Look at what critics and customers have to say.

Next, find out the value of your current car. KBB.com is a great source for finding the value of a trade-in vehicle, and it can even tell you what to expect from a dealership versus retail value. Keep in mind that vehicle condition has a major impact on value. Sometimes we see what we want to see in our old cars—it’s fair to be a little more flexible with your trade-in.

Test drive the used car. You should never skip this step. Test driving can reveal things like engine noises and handling issues. It can also let you know if you really enjoy driving the car. Are there many blind spots? Do you like the feel behind the wheel? Could you drive this car every day for many years?

Finally, work with a salesman to get the best deal. When getting a used car, you’ll deal with three separate transactions—trade-in car, the car you’re buying, and financing. Spend time with the car salesman working out the best deal for you. And at H & H Chevy Cadillac, we are here to help you!

Financing Tips and Tricks: Saving for a Car

Tips for saving for a car.

Tips for saving for a car.

Saving for a car can be a difficult process. Not only do you need good credit to get a car loan with acceptable rates, but you also need roughly 10 to 20 percent of a vehicle’s sticker price in order to make a down payment. That’s why we’ve put together a post on saving for a car, helping you to get your dream car.

According to US News, one of the most important steps is budgeting. Learn how much you can afford by calculating your monthly income and subtracting any expenses. What you have left is your maximum budget for a monthly car payment. It’s also important to account for insurance, fuel, registration, and other fees.

Next, calculate how much you need for a down payment. The rule of thumb is 20% of the sticker price, though the average American pays only 10%. The higher the down payment you can afford, the better your interest rates will typically be.

It’s also important to determine when you need (or want) your new car. Although this might sound like a given, few people realize the impact a few weeks can make in terms of savings. For example, if you are moving soon or if you are getting a new job, be sure to account for an increase or decrease in income as well as the need for transportation.

Finally, stick to the plan. Making savings mandatory is the most important part of saving for a car. Most people find that having their work’s payroll department deposit some of their earnings into a savings account, and the rest into their checking account, helps them to save without dipping into funds. This way, your car fund isn’t affected by routine spending. If you don’t have direct deposit, consider the good old-fashioned money jar.

Not sure if you have enough money saved? Stop by our Finance Department. Tell us what you want to pay monthly, and we’ll do our best to make it become a reality.

An unwanted smell is unappealing and, depending on the smell, can lower your car’s resale value. Even if you don’t plan on selling your car anytime soon, a fresh smelling car is more inviting to passengers. Here’s a few quick ways to remove smells from a car from us here at H & H Chevrolet Cadillac.

  1. Coffee – After you’ve made your favorite cup of coffee, spoon some fresh coffee grounds into a bowl. Leave the bowl in your car with the windows up while you’re at work. When you’re ready to drive home, the smell of your favorite coffee will have overpowered the unwanted smell.
  2. Cat Litter – If you have a cat, you likely have litter at home. Cat litter is designed to absorb and eliminate smells which makes it perfect for deodorizing your car. Throw some cat litter in a bowl and leave it in your car overnight. By morning, your car will be virtually odorless.
  3. Cinnamon Sticks – Great for winter, cinnamon sticks can create a great smell to overpower your unwanted odor. Boil several sticks in hot water then pour that water into a mug or cup. Leave the cup in your car while it cools. Wait about an hour then enjoy the fresh cinnamon smell!

Autonomous Chevrolet Bolt Taxi

Chevrolet Bolt taxi is going to be seen on the road soon!

General Motors has generated a lot of interest with its latest electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt. Now the company is taking that interest to new heights by making use of their partnership with Lyft. General Motors and Lyft will begin testing the autonomous Chevrolet Bolt taxi by mid-2017.

While neither company has revealed the location, the Chevrolet Bolt taxi isn’t likely to go unnoticed. Using technology developed by Cruise Automation Inc., General Motors hopes to increase sales via those who use Lyft.

“We have said the Chevrolet Bolt EV is the ideal platform for ride sharing solutions,” General Motors said. “We believe electrification blends perfectly with autonomy when it comes to technology integration.”

General Motors invested $500 million in Lyft back in January and both companies have heavily invested in autonomous technology. That’s not the only company the conglomerate is looking to acquire. Cruise Automation Inc. is in talks with General Motors for a $1 billion price tag.

Have no fear, ride-sharing users! Lyft will keep drivers in autonomous vehicles at first to ensure passenger safety. Customers in the unnamed city can opt into the program to receive a ride in an autonomous Chevrolet Bolt taxi within the coming year.

Here at H&H Chevrolet Cadillac of Shippensburg, PA, we can’t wait to see the latest in autonomous technology hit the road!
