Hiking Trail for Summer

family Hiking Trail for Summer

Finding the perfect hiking trail to spend a summer day or weekend isn’t easy. Fortunately, Pennsylvania is full of magnificent trails. We here at H&H Cadillac know of a hiking trail for summer that you won’t want to miss out on.

Pine Creek Rail Trail.

Stretching a massive 62 miles from Wellsboro Junction to Jersey Shore, the Pine Creek Rail Trail offers a hiking experience unlike any other. The trail is one of the most popular in all of Pennsylvania so you know it’s got to be something magnificent.

Visitors can travel by bike or foot. There are a variety of trails available. The shortest trail is just 0.6 of a mile while the longest is 7.7 miles and reaches from Wellsboro junction to Ansonia. A two percent grade makes it a relaxing trail to hike and bike on. Horses are welcome on the trail between Ansonia and Tiadaghton.

The trails travels through, past, and around some of the most wonderful sights that Pennsylvania has to offer. Points of interest include waterfalls, flower fields, and Pine Creek Gorge. Wooden bridges offer a rustic biking and hiking experience.

Camping is allowed, but you’ll need a permit to do so legally. However, cell phone service is nonexistent throughout most of the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Get out there and enjoy nature as it was meant to be experienced.

Escape the Everyday with These Off-the-Grid Road Trips

off-the-grid road trips - 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

Here in Pennsylvania, we are familiar with the same-old, same-old destinations: a trip to Hershey Park, a D.C. weekend, a Pittsburgh afternoon for one of those black-and-yellow professional sports games. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with these spots, sometimes it’s nice to experience something new, something wild, something unique.

Our H&H Chevrolet “fun experts” have whipped together our top-three off-the-grid road trips right here in Pennsylvania so you can end your summer with a bang.

Blakeslee Natural Area

130 acres of largely untouched and protected wild land means that at the Blakeslee Natural Area you’ll see a side of the Quaker State rarely seen since the Quakers roamed free. If you come here, don’t be afraid to get muddy!

Where can I find Blakeslee Natural Area?

Input “20 PA-115, Blakeslee, PA 18610” into your Maps app.

Susquehannock State Forest

This is a perfect spot for the adventurous. With ample trails for hiking and biking and access to horseback riding paths, you won’t want for activities at Susquehannock State Forest!

Where can I find Susquehannock State Forest?

Input “3150 East 2nd Street, Coudersport, PA 16915” into your Maps app.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

If you take the drive to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, prepare your eyeballs for the some of the most stunning vistas you’ve ever seen. Ornithologists, bird-watchers, and just casual fans of our feathered friends will love Hawk Mountain for obvious reasons (see name of locale).

Where can I find Hawk Mountain Sanctuary?

Input “1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA 19529” into your Maps app.

Spend a Beautiful Afternoon at Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

At H&H Chevrolet, we love to highlight some of the lesser-known destinations across Pennsylvania that we believe families in our community would enjoy visiting. One such spot is the gorgeous Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary in Jim Thorpe, about two and half hours from Shippensburg.

Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary is an idyllic location to idle away an afternoon spotting colorful butterflies, exotic frogs, and wildflowers and learning all about wildlife and habitat conservation. You can sign your family up for a guided tour with one of Bear Mountain’s experienced staff members or you can wander the delightful “Flutterarium” on your own.

While you’re at Bear Mountain, you must:

Take the time to stand still — the curious butterflies will without a doubt land on you to say hello!

Get up close with real poison dart frogs — have no fear; in captivity, they are completely non-toxic.

Check out one of their daily events — there is always something exciting happening here, from Birds of Prey exhibitions to kid-friendly Treasure Hunts. See their monthly Event Calendar for details.

Take home some Milkweed to plant — this is the Monarch Butterfly’s favorite food, and it’s becoming harder and harder to come by. Help Bear Mountain’s efforts to re-grow Monarch habitats right here in Shippensburg!

Need a new vehicle to haul all that Milkweed seed? H&H Chevrolet has plenty of cars and trucks to choose from — stop by to see our selection today!
